Chief George Johnson passed away, forcing Emily (Howells) Johnson and her daughters to leave Chiefswood and move into a rented house in Brantford, Ontario.
Pauline published her first poem, “My Jeannie” in the small New York magazine Gems of Poetry.

After being tutored at home in the early years, Pauline attends Brantford Collegiate Institute. She appeared in several plays in Brantford as a member of the Brant Amateurs.
